Feeling Overwhelmed?

Have you ever had those days when you wonder, “How in the world am I going to do all of this?”

I have had a stretch of about seven months where it feels like I am barely keeping my nose above water. Without going into great detail here, suffice it to say that I am entirely overwhelmed in nearly every facet of my life.

It isn’t that there has been a series of bad events. It is that there is a great deal of activity everywhere, all at once, and I feel I am running around, keeping all of the plates spinning.

Ever been there?

Now that I am in month seven of this tailspin, I will share how I have found peace within this chaos.

  1. I remind myself that God sees me and that He is with me. Even in the whirlwind–He is right by my side.
  2. I have learned to live with the fact that not everything will get done today, this week, or this month. And that is okay. As long as I bale more water out of the boat than is coming in, I will get ahead at some point.
  3.  I have found the necessity of sleep. I can complete more tasks with a better spirit when I sleep well and deeply.
  4.  I have learned the importance of saying “no” to more projects, meetings, and commitments.
  5. I have learned to be transparent and vulnerable—to say to people in my life, “I just can’t do that at this time.” Perhaps that has been the hardest lesson of all.

What do you do when you are overwhelmed?

I would love to hear from you!
